Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will on February 26 visit the Dar es Salaam port in Tanzania to inspect improvements made so as to encourage businessmen from Uganda to resume using the port, Tanzanian authorities said on Thursday.

The Dar es Salaam port is the east African nation's major port serving landlocked countries of Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Augustine Mahiga,  said Tanzanian President John Magufuli invited President Museveni to visit Tanzania when they met in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa during the African Union heads of state and government summit last month.

The Ugandan leader will start his two-day official visit to Tanzania on Saturday, said Mahiga, adding that the two leaders will hold talks aimed at cementing bilateral relations and cooperation in business, energy, transportation and good neighborhood.

The minister said Museveni's visit to the Dar es Salaam port was aimed at encouraging Ugandan businessmen to resume using the port instead of using the Mombasa port in Kenya.

Mahiga  said Museveni's visit will be followed by a two-day state visit by President Danny Faure of the Seychelles which will begin on February 27. Enditem.
