To the protestant, it is the Bible that teaches through the church, therefore, it is "the Bible says" i.e. the church never says. It is for this reason that the protestants believe and even teach that the salvation is found not in the church but in the Bible. To the catholic, it is the church teaches through the the Bible, so that what we hear is "the church teaches." Jesus left behind the church to teach the whole world; to baptize and to offer the Eucharistic food (the bread of life) for the salvation of mankind; the Bible being the collection of first and second century writings which came long after the inauguration of the church on Pentecost Day.
Come to think of it. When the lord Jesus was about to leave this world, He commissioned His Apostles to go out and teach all the nations of the earth. First, Jesus said to them , "you are the witness of these things. And I myself will send upon you what my father has promised ...(Jn.15:26)" . Now what did the father promised? the Bible or the Holy Spirit.Second Jesus instructed saying, "Do not leave the Jerusalem until you have cloth with power from above" (LK24;49). Could not Jesus have said, do not leave the Jerusalem until you have being giving a copy of Bible?" Third, Jesus also said, all Authority in heaven and on earth has been given me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all the commands I gave you. And look, I am with you always; yes, it is the end of time." was it the Bible Jesus commissioned to go out and teach nations of the earth ? Jesus did not give a single book. Rather, He gave His Church and promised the Holy Spirit to guide the church saying , from now on the counselor, the Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of all that i have told you ,"(Jn14:26) Jesus also taught saying "I have many things to say to you but you can not bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth ; for he will not speak on his own authority , but what ever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come "(Jn.16:12). Another conformation comes out in the words of the lord in (Jn17:20) "I pray not only for these but also for those who come to believe in me through teaching."
Another difference is found in the way Catholics and protestants view the old testament scriptures. While the protestants see the Old Testaments scriptures as sacred scriptures with independent interpretation of their own, Catholics read the old testaments scriptures in the light of Jesus' revelation in the new testament. Differently put, Catholics view old testaments scriptures as the beginning is salvivic revelation and new testament as as the fulfillment of the very same salvivic revelation. This is because according to The catechism of the catholic church, the new testament lies hidden in the old and the old is unveiled in the new.
