The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and
Natural Gas Workers has warned its members to shun selling adulterated
engine lubricants to unsuspecting members of the public.
NUPENG cautioned that adulterated engine
lubricants could damage cars and other machines, adding that members
caught in the act of selling adulterated products would be dealt with.
National Industrial Relations Officer of
NUPENG, Mr. Bassey Harry, issued this warning on Thursday in Port
Harcourt while speaking with lubricant dealers, who were members of the
union.
Harry pointed out that the union was not a
place where members would be allowed to do whatever they wished to the
detriment of the public, adding that the sales of fake and adulterated
products would not be tolerated.
According to him, a task force had been set
up to monitor the activities of engine lubricant dealers across the
country, adding that the Standard Organisation of Nigeria and the
Nigeria Police would be part of the task force to check the excesses of
some NUPENG members.
“You deal in engine oil (lubricants);
how do you feel if a man buys your oil, puts it in his car engine and
the bad engine oil damages the engine of the man’s car?
“We will not allow engine lubricant
dealers to be a branch of NUPENG that will destroy the image of NUPENG.
We must desist from selling adulterated engine lubricants. If you sell
genuine oil, you will be in business.
“So, don’t sell adulterated oil so that
motorists and other users of your product will not abandon you and only
buy the products in big fuel stations. Henceforth, you must sell
original engine lubricants.
“If you buy genuine oil for retail, God
will see you through and you will make your profit. But if you sell
fake lubricants, your customers will get to know and you will be out of
business in no distant time.
“NUPENG also rejects any tanker driver
that goes to a pipeline to siphon fuel. We are aware that some of the
tankers burnt belong to NUPENG members,” he added.
Harry, however, urged members of the
union involved in the sale of engine lubricants to register with NUPENG
in order to avoid being embarrassed by the task force that would soon
begin the monitoring of their activities. NATION
