Bashar Al Assad Has Sworn In The New Syrian Cabinet

Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has sworn in the new Syrian cabinet and asked for an exceptional effort due to the continued war in the country. The new Cabinet members, who took up their posts on Monday, are headed by Imad Mohammad Deeb Khamis.

In a meeting after the ceremony, Al Assad said that Syrian citizens have a lot of hope that the new authorities will take up the double responsibility they have in the current situation.

"There should be transparency because our citizens must be informed of the efforts ministries are making and their results, since improving life conditions should be the priority for the officials in their respective functions," said the President.

Al Assad has emphasized the importance of communicating with the population but this must not be at the expense of fulfilling daily duties, he added.

He stated that officials must be knowledgeable of the suffering of the people and their needs, and also underlined that national media should reflect the worries of the people, instead of being mere spokespersons for the Government. In this way they will obtain the confidence of the people, which in turn will strengthen the base that supports the work of state institutions.

He emphasized work must be done to control prices, in addition to preserving the value of the local currency (the Syrian pound) by strengthening state resources through imports and creating stimulus to exports and small and medium-sized industries.

The president also pointed out that the reconstruction of the country must be prioritized.

Prime Minister Khamis and several of the members of the new cabinet, said that the difficult conditions arising from the terrorist war imposed on the Syrian people, has given them determination to redouble their efforts to find solutions.

On July 3rd, Al Assad issued decree number 203 of 2016, by the means of which he arranged the formation of a new government, formed by 36 ministers this Monday. Source: IOL
