Unemployed Nurses Stage Demo In Accra

Nurses Stage Demo In Accra (5)
About 150 unemployed nurses yesterday embarked on a demonstration in Accra to protest against government’s failure to employ them since completing school in 2014.
According to the unemployed nurses government refusal to finalize their clearance from the Ministry of Finance for their subsequent  employment has brought an untold hardship on them.
They have therefore given government three-week ultimatum to respond to their demand or face series of strike actions nationwide.
The demonstrators who belong to the Coalition of Unemployed Nurses were in red hand and head bands as they protest.
They began the protest about 10am at the Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and marched through Farisco, TUC and ended at the Hearts Park.
They initially planned to march to the flagstaff house and picket there but they were not allowed by the Greater Accra Police command, citing security reasons.
Some of the placards they carried read, “Nurses and Midwives abre”, “Our profession is gradually losing its value”, “A hungry nurse is a potential killer”, “Post us now”, “Do we need to demonstrate before we are posted”; “We need clearance and posting now”, “Our skills are getting rusty” and “Always promise and fail, why”.
Adam Masawudu, President of the Coalition of Unemployed Nurses said when delivering their petition to the Ministry of Health representative said the demonstration was necessary because several letters written to the Ministry of Health, yielded no result.
“We signed a bond with government that we will be immediately recruited after completing school but since we completed in 2014 we have not been employed and government is watching unconcerned”, Mr. Masawudu said.
He warned government to as a matter of urgency address their unemployment issue or face their wrath.
Hamidun Adakurugu, Director Legal, Ministry of Health who received the petition on behalf of the Minister promised the demonstrators that government will address their issue.DAILY GUIDE
