Police arrest 8 over Gwagwalada political violence
City News gathered that one Haruna Adamu was killed and property worth millions of naira were destroyed last Saturday in Dobi village in Gwagwalada Area Council during area council election campaigns.
The incident happened after factional members of the APC, said to be loyal to the House of Representatives member for Abuja South, Zakari Angulu Dobi, allegedly attacked supporters of the incumbent chairman of the council, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, when he led his campaign team to the community.
Adamu, who was said to be a security guard at Dobi’s house was allegedly shot dead by one of the soldiers at a checkpoint near the village, after the group of youth loyal to Giri, informed the soldiers that the security man was carrying a gun and he should be prevented from attacking Giri’s campaign team.
Meanwhile, a police inspector, Saleh Ahmadu, who was injured in the clash has claimed that the deceased security man at the APC chieftain’s house shot at him, after he was trying to calm down the rampaging youths.
Speaking with our reporter on his sick  bed at University of Abuja Teaching Hospital,  Gwagwalada, Inspector Ahmadu, said he led a patrol team to Dobi village on that day and when he saw a group of youth hurling stones into the House of Representatives member’s house, he waded in with his men to calm the tension.
He said after that, he went to rest under a tree when a bloodied youth came asking for his help.
He said he was interrogating the injured victim when he suddenly heard a gunshot from a compound and he decided to find out who was shooting and it was in the process that he was shot in the neck.
He said it was the gunshot that attracted the attention of the soldiers at a checkpoint near the village.
The police commissioner said  investigations have reached advanced stage and the remote and immediate causes of the fracas are being uncovered.
Inalegwu promised that the law would be fully applied and offenders punished to serve as deterrent to those who easily get attracted to the path of lawlessness.
The commissioner who noted that normalcy has since returned to the area, assured the residents of FCT of improved security.

Following the Gwagwalada incident, the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, directed security agents to fish out perpetrators of the Gwagwalada violent political skirmish.
The minister directed that all those involved be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The minister warned that security breach in whatever manner is not acceptable in the FCT, stressing that politics is not a do-or-die affair.
Bello emphasized that political violence has no place in Abuja and directed that all perpetrators be arrested and brought to book.
The minister warned politicians not test the will power of the government because his administration would not condone barbaric behavior.
“The security agents must fish out perpetrators of this violent attack and be made to face the full wrath of the law because nobody is above the law,” Bello directed.
He assured residents of FCT of order and advised them to go about their lawful businesses.
