House Speaker Paul Ryan and 2016 candidate John Kasich ripped into Donald Trump Thursday over his suggestion earlier this week that voters would riot at the GOP’s national convention this summer if he wasn’t the nominee.
“Nobody should say such things, in my opinion,” Ryan said during brief remarks inside the Capitol. “To even address or hint at violence is unacceptable.”Kasich, meanwhile, blasted the mogul in a series of tweets, calling them “unacceptable.”This implicit acceptance of violence is the kind of rhetoric that’s pulling people apart,” added Kasich, who with Trump and Ted Cruz, makes up the trio of remaining GOP candidates. “A true leader urges peaceful debate over violence. Leadership requires responsibility.”
On Wednesday Trump warned of “riots” and “bad things” if party leaders blocked him from getting the nomination despite having the most delegates.
