The Paramount Chief of Edina Traditional area, Nana Kwadwo Condua VI, has appealed to President John Mahama to call one of his boys in the community Kwabena Badu, aka Maanoma to order since his actions in the area could mar the relative peace in the area.
According to Nana Condua VI, Maanoma has succeeded in creating divisions in the NDC and among the fishermen which has resulted in skirmishes.
Reports said that Maanoma had used his position as member of the National Premix Committee to intimidate individuals in the area who do not support his cause.
He is said to have deprived such people, especially fishermen, of premix fuel to undertake fishing activities.
Nana Condua VI explained that his quest to broker peace among the feuding factions was misconstrued to mean his support for the other faction, noting that Maanoma has been hurling insults at him in the town every morning using mobile vans with speakers.
The Elmina chief lodged the complaint with President Mahama when he paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Elmina as part of the ‘Accounting to the People Tour.’
Fishermen in Elmina have clashed several times owing to the development as a result of unfair distribution of premix fuel and lack of accountability in the sale of the fuel which led to the distoolment of the chief fisherman of the town.
Some fisher folks sustained various degrees of injury last year.
In response, President Mahama assured the chief that he would take a look at his petition and advice so as to maintain peace in the area.THE DAILY GUIDE
