Mr Trump followed up his bold prediction with a promise to tone down his rhetoric and become "boring", if he wins the Republican nomination.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Mr Trump told reporters the US stock market was sitting on a financial bubble and could go into a "massive recession".
The billionaire property tycoon went on to deliver his own stock tips, saying now was a terrible time to invest.
Senior Republicans said they were concerned the tone of the race for the party nomination would end up hurting the GOP in the real contest against the Democrats.
And some Republicans have been reported to be considering contesting the July convention and sending in a new candidate.
In the past few weeks Mr Trump prompted worldwide concern after suggesting Japan and South Korea could arm themselves with nuclear weapons, and his top adviser was charged with battery of a reporter.
He also managed to draw condemnation from both pro and anti abortion activists, for suggesting women who have abortions should be punished.
On Fox News the Republican frontrunner was asked by the news anchor Chris Wallace whether he would consider changing his style, "studying up on issues" and laying off the personal attacks, considering the past two weeks of "controversies".
"Originally when I went out we had 17 people, we're down now to three, I have two leftovers, ok? I call them leftovers. They haven't been nice to me," Mr Trump said.
"I will beat them, after I beat them I am going to be so presidential, you're going to be so bored, you're going to say this is the most boring human being I've ever interviewed."
